Let me tell you what a typical day in Thailand is like for me. I wake up and drive to a local golf course where I meet an American friend. We?re greeted with beaming smiles by the caddies who quickly pick up our bags and escort us to the course. After a leisurely nine holes, I drive home to my fully furnished two story, three bedroom, two bath apartment in the center of the city. The rent is expensive by Thai standards- US$300 a month. I give my gorgeous 26 year old Thai girlfriend a kiss goodbye as she heads off to work as a concierge for a local 5 star hotel.
After a quick shower, I spend a couple of hours checking email and surfing the net with my high speed internet. From there, it?s time for lunch. Italian sounds good. Four dollars later, I?m full and its time for a little sunbathing by the pool. There I catch up with other long time expats, some from the US, others from Europe and Australia. We lie in the sun, laughing, talking politics, investments, business, girls and the day?s headlines from the Bangkok Post. I return home and spend a couple more hours on the computer before receiving a call from Neung (the 26 year old gorgeous Thai girlfriend). She?s getting off work and wants me to meet her for a massage and dinner. My back?s a little sore from golfing that morning and a massage sounds great.
Over the course of the next two hours, I fall in and out of sleep as I experience the ultimate in relaxation- Thailand is famous for its unique style of massage that targets every corner of the body. After parting with $5 for the massage, we head to a local Thai restaurant. Its outdoors and there must be two hundred other customers. A live band plays in the center and the aromas of fresh chili and barbeque permeate the air. Everywhere, people are talking and laughing. It seems every table has its own waitress and each time my glass of beer nears empty, a stunning girl in super high heels, a short black mini skirt and a Johnnie Walker tank top, rushes over to fill it up. I smile at her and she smiles back. Neung shoots me a disapproving look. I smile at Neung and take another sip. Dinner and beer for two costs $8, a fair price for a great ...
